Ooty Queen of Nilgiri hills is a stunning hill resort in the state of Tamil Nadu. Ooty traverses the beauty of South India. The name is obtained from Ooctamund which indicates the house of hills. It is located approx. Seven thousand five hundred feet above sea level in the Nilgiri Mountain Range. It attracts thousands of tourists every day. The weather here is pleasant enough to rotate the mood absolutely of tourists. The temperature varies between 15-20°C and during winter it falls to 0°C.

The hills covered with dense flowers, tea gardens and eucalyptus trees make the surroundings very soothing and scenic. Other than Ooty, the cities nearby that are worth exploring are Coonoor and Kotagiri. They are simply an hour distant from the city.

Ooty Botanical Gardens

Laid out in 1847, spread in a hilarious area of 22 hectares, Ooty Botanical Garden is controlled by the Horticulture Department of Tamil Nadu. This garden showcases more than 650 varieties of plants and trees. It also involves a relic that is said to be around 20 million years old. In May, you can be a part of the summer festival, which provides for flower shows and other cultural programs where the local talent and the renowned artists perform.

Doddabetta Peak

The peak is located at an altitude of approx. 2600 meters are making it the most critical point in the entire region. It is 10 km away from Ooty and one can attract the breathtaking view of the valley. Fields of Coimbatore and flat mountains of Mysore are also noticeable from the peak. It's better to go with your car as it requires stepping and public transportation is not available.

Pykara Lake

Pykara lake is situated at a distance of 21 km from the city. The attractive village of Pykara which has an enthusiastic river flowing through on which a dam is built. With the dam's presence, the dam's water is enhanced with a Pykara Lake lake. The lake is a lovely picnic spot with lush green and amazing sights that attract people from different corners of the world. People can enjoy a boat ride in the lake in the middle of nature and love.

Nilgiri Mountain Railways

Famous for the toy train trips, this is a necessity do activity for each and all. Taking the train from Ooty, the complete tour is lovely especially during the rainy season. It is also placed in the World Heritage Site. A 46 km brave route with 16 tunnels, 108 curves and 250 bridges. The uphill walk starts from Mettupalayam and needs 4.9 hours and reaches Ooty at noon and the downhill journey starts from Ooty at 2 P.M. and takes 3.6 hours and goes Mettupalayam at 5.35 P.M.

Ooty Lake

The lake is unnatural and was built in 1824. The water that flowed down was stopped to make the lake. Circled by eucalyptus trees and a railway line along the lake's shores makes it a delightful scene. During May, a two day boat race and display are organized. Adjoining the lake Tamil Nadu Tourism Corporation constructed a boathouse. It offers a paddleboat, rowboat and motorboat for boating and makes the place a center of attraction for visitors. Apart from this there is an entertainment park, a mini train and a garden for all.
